SWaNH Best Practices online database help What is it?
The SWaNH matrix is an attempt to systematize all knowledge of best practices in software development into one all-encompassing matrix. This matrix has several
dimensions, each dimension corresponding to a variable to be kept in mind.

This matrix is a product of the Software Association of New Hampshire's Engineering & Quality SIG.

This online form of the matrix is provided by Neil Rowland of Bottom Line Computer.

In addition to the entry form, there is a specifier string that specifies a cell in the matrix. It takes the form:
SWANH.BESTPRACT(axis=value,axis=value...)
You can use this specifier in other contexts, such as emails, blog, message boards, etc to refer to the matrix. For convenience, the online matrix provides links you can click on after a query to search Google and message boards for the specifier, and thus find related articles outside of the online matrix.

How do I use it?
To
query the online matrix, enter values for each dimension in the query form. For each dimension that you don't want to specify, accept the default value of ANY. If you don't see the value you're looking for, try 'OTHER'.

To enter or edit an item in the online matrix, first do a query, using the dimension values that best describe what you want to enter. Toward the bottom of the query page, you will see a link that lets you enter and edit an entry of your own.

If you want to link to a document elsewhere on the Web, simply type in the URL, and the system will display this as clickable hyperlink. We recommend you include a brief synopsis or abstract before each URL.

For the time being, there is no login, and your IP address will be used ot identify you and your entries. Later we will tie this system into a PHPBB online forum, so that both will use a unified login.
